CA Course Eligibility For Foundation, Intermediate And Final Course

Mainly the students of commerce stream show interest to join in CA course. There are many ways to become CA with certain eligibility condition. Here we are mentioning eligibility criteria of CA course. CA Course is mainly Divided into 4 stages. They are

  • CA Foundation
  • CA Intermediate
  • Articleship Program
  • CA Final

The CA course eligibility is different for different courses. The students who has the certain eligibility criteria will be able to join the particular stage of CA course.

CA Course Eligibility

CA Foundation Course Eligibility

CA foundation is the first stage of CA course. The foundation course is like a entrance test to the CA course. To pursue CA course first the candidate should clear CA foundation course. The eligibility criteria to take CA foundation course is the student should complete intermediate of commerce stream with an aggregate of 50% marks from recognized board.

The eligible candidates should apply for CA foundation course through online on ICAI website. The students have to register for the exam before 4 weeks of commencement of the exam. The students have to take 4 months of study period to take CA Foundation exam.

The ICAI conducts CA Foundation course 2 times a year in months of May and November. To attempt exam in May the student should apply for the exam before December 31 of the previous year. Similarly if the student wants to attempt the exam in November then the candidate has to register for the exam before June 30 of the same year.

CA Intermediate Course Eligibility

This is the 2nd stage of CA course.This is one of the toughest part of CA course. There are 2 ways to pursue CA intermediate course. They are normal route and direct entry route.

Normal Route

To register for CA intermediate course the students should complete 10+2 from recognized board and the candidate should clear CA foundation course. The candidate who want to attempt CA Intermediate course should take a study period of 8 months.

Direct Entry Route

The students who have completed their graduation or post-graduation can apply for CA Intermediate course through direct entry route, that means they no need to clear CA foundation exam. The candidates who cleared Intermediate level in ICSI or ICWA are eligible to register for CA Intermediate course through direct entry route.

CA Intermediate Course Eligibility After Graduation or Post-Graduation

The candidates who have completed graduation or post-graduation can apply for CA Intermediate course through direct entry route. To apply for CA Intermediate through this route one has to obtain a certain percentage to apply for CA Intermediate course.

  • Graduates or post-graduates of commerce stream should secure minimum of 55% of marks in order to apply for CA Intermediate course through direct entry route.
  • Graduates or post-graduates of non-commerce stream should secure minimum of 60% marks to apply for CA Intermediate course through direct entry route.

The candidates of non-commerce stream should under go a training period of 9 months under a practicing Chartered Accountant. The candidates of commerce stream should under go a study period of 8 months before commencement of CA Intermediate exams.

The students who are pursuing their final year of graduation or post-graduation can register for CA Intermediate course, but they can start their practical training only on successful submission of satisfactory proof that they have passed their graduation or post-graduation with the prescribed percentage.

Articleship Program Eligibility

The articleship program is the important part of CA course. The students have to undergo a articleship program for a period of 3 years under a practicing Chartered Accountant.

The candidates who have cleared both groups of CA Intermediate course or any 1 group of CA Intermediate course can go a articleship program. Before the candidate going to take articleship program they have to pursue a 4 week training program of ITT and OP.

The candidates who applied for CA Intermediate course through direct entry scheme should have to take practical training before commencement of CA Intermediate exams.

CA Final Course Eligibility

CA Final is the final stage of CA course. The eligibility conditions to apply for CA Final are as follows:

  • A candidate who has completed both groups of CA Intermediate course and completed 4 weeks of ITT and OP program can apply for CA Final course.
  • The candidate must also complete articleship program or serving the last 6 months of the program can also apply for CA Final course.
  • The student who has successfully completed Advanced Integrated course on Information Technology and Soft Skills can also apply for CA Final course.

There are 2 groups in CA final course, the student can apply for both the groups at a time or can apply for individual groups. After the student clearing both the groups can apply as a member for ICAI.
